Myanmar EITI Delegation pay eight-day visit to Indonesia for Learning Mining Decentralization

Myanmar EITI delegation joined the eight-day visit to Indonesia for learning mining decentralization.

The delegation was led by MEITI MSG Vice chair U Khin Latt Gyi, Director General of Department of Mining, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Conservation, including Multi-stakeholder group members, MEITI Sub-National Unit Members, NRGI Myanmar Officials, Director of Budget Department from Ministry of Planning and Finance and MEITI National Coordination Secretariat Officials.

The delegation arrived to Jakarta, Indonesia on 13th July, 2019 and the second day was emphasized by Introduction of EITI Standards and Natural Resources Governance in Subnational from Mr. Maw Htun Aung, Country Manager of NRGI Myanmar, presenting "decentralization of Myanmar Natural resource sector" from Mr. Hosana Chay from NRGI Myanmar, Sharing knowledge with the focus of Mining Decentralization in Indonesia and Tin Mining in Bangka from Dr. Erwiza Erman, Mining histrologist and research professor from Indonesia Institute of Science, presenting "Mining Decentralization in Indonesia" from Dr. Made Suwandi, retired officer from MOHA indonesia and introduction from Ms. Aye Kyi Thar Swe, Senior Myanmar Officer from NRGI Myanmar for coming meetings and detail schedule along the  trip.

On the third day, sharing from Mr. Hendra Sinadia, vice chair of Indonesia Mining Association and founder of Indonesia Mining Institute with the presentation of Mining Decentralization in Indonesia, presentation from Publish what you pay National coordinator Ms. Mayryati Abdullah for Mining Govenance and Decentralization, presentation from Dr. Ing. Hery Permana, Deputy Director from Mineral and Coal Mining Department of Ministry of Enery, Mineral and Coal Resources with the focus of "Good Mining Governance", Sharing from Mr. Dwi Sawung, Head Campaigner from Energy and Civic sector of Indonesia Environmental Forum with the title of "Decentralization Permit and Environmental effect" and presentation from Mr. Laode M. Syarif, a commissioner of Indonesia KPK with the focuss of "Lesson learned from Indonesia Mining Decentralization" were emphasized. The delegation asked the questions and shared the opinions about the presentations.

Mr. Laode M. Syarif, a commissioner of KPK and Officials, on fourth day, received the delegation and shared the milestones and experiences through 16 years of KPK. Indonesia EITI National secretariat and MSG received the Myanmar delegation for sharing experiences and progress of Indonesia EITI. On that day, Myanmar  delegation travelled to Bangka Belitung from Jakarta.

On fifth day, Bangka Belitung  Province Prime Minister and government officials received Myanmar delegation and shared the experiences and future plan of Environment and ecotourism. And then, the delegation went and learned the present mining sites and Kaolin lake.

On sixth day, the delegation visited to reclamation site of PT TIMAH, a state-owned corporation of Indonesia and the Managing Director and Officials of PT TIMAH received the delegation and shared the milestones, challenges and long term plan of PT TIMAH. On the evening, Mr. Agung Nugraha, a researcher of Bangka Belitung, shared with the focus of "Bangka Tin Mining and Political Economy after mining decentralization. On the seventh day, myanmar delegation visited to Botanical garden of Former Mining economist Mr. Djohan Aping and learned the progress and objectives from Manager of Botanical garden.

Myanmar delegation have arrived to Yangon on 20th July, 2019. The exposure trip was supported by Myanmar EITI and NRGI Myanmar.
