Myanmar EITI Report Launch & Public Debate (Video Part 2)

The 2nd and 3rd Myanmar EITI Reports, covering 2014 – 2015 & 2015 – 2016 Fiscal Years, were launched and a Public Debate was held at Horizon Lake View Hotel, Nay Pyi Taw on 19 December, 2018.

The ceremony was attended by about 200 attendees, including Union Ministers, Deputy Ministers, MPs from Hluttaws, Myanmar EITI MSG, National Coordinator and National Coordination Secretariat officials, Sub-committees, Beneficial Ownership Task Force, state and regional SNUs, department officials, donors, representatives from MFMA and MGJEA, development partners, companies representatives, Embassies representatives, distinguished guests and media.

At the ceremony, Union Minister of Ministry of Planning and Finance, who is also the Chairman of Myanmar EITI Leading Committee, delivered the opening remark and Deputy Minister of Ministry of Planning and Finance, who is also the Chairman of Myanmar EITI MSG, addressed the speech. Mr. Morten Larsen, Senior Mining Specialist from World Bank, delivered the speech on behalf of development partners as well. Afterwards, the Programme Manager from National Coordination Secretariat read the message from the EITI International Secretariat. The National Coordinator thanked for the support and contribution in Myanmar EITI reporting process.

Following the ceremony, the photo session was conducted. The certificates of appreciation were awarded to departments and companies that involved in the reporting process. The Deputy Director General from Department of Mines, the General Manager from Myanmar Gems Enterprise and the Advisor from Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise presented report findings of the respective sectors. A representative from Myanmar Alliance for Transparency and Accountability (MATA) explained the recommendations of the reports.

The Public Debate was held as the second session of the ceremony. The Deputy Director General U Kyaw Thet from Department of Mines, the General Manager U Min Thu from Myanmar Gems Enterprise, the Advisor U Than Htay Aung from Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise participated as the government representing panelists. As the panelist from private sector, The Chairman of Myanmar Federation of Mining Associations, U Khin Maung Han, and the Head of Contractual and Commercial Support of Total E&P Myanmar, U Win Tin, were present and for CSOs representative, U Win Myo Thu from MATA. The Chairman of Amyotha Hluttaw Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation Committee, U Kyaw Thiha, also was one of the panelists for this debate. Salai Cung Lian Thawng from Sone Sie Programme supported the debate as the moderator. The ceremony was successfully concluded at 5:30 PM.
